FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS- YARTS COMMUTER PASSES
Who
can buy a commuter pass on YARTS?
Any
individual using YARTS may buy a commuter pass.
What
do the passes cost? Are any discounts available?
Fares
for passes are available on the YARTS Commuter Pass Information. Students with valid student ID receive a discount.
Commuters may also qualify for financial support or pre-tax
deductions, based upon employer and participation. (See
the Commuter Pass Assistance sheet for information.)
Even
without any subsidy, the commuter rates on YARTS remain
substantially lower than single trips. Each set of round
trip punches on the 20-Trip Commuter Pass between each of
the communities on Highway 140 and Yosemite Valley costs
less than HALF of what a single adult round-trip
ticket for that same community costs.
Could
rates go up in the future?
For
the first six years of the service, all fare prices stayed
the same. The first increase (effective October 31, 2007)
is step one of a three-step annual increase of 10% per year
on commuter passes. The increases were past due, but became
particularly important as fuel and other costs have risen
dramatically in the past two years.
How
do I find out if I am eligible for financial or for pre-tax
deductions by my employer?
Some
employers in the area may be able to offer their employees
subsidies or pre-tax payroll deductions for transit use
to work. Refer to the Commuter Pass Assistance sheet and
talk with your employer.
